I don't watch TV
“I don’t watch TV” - I hear this phrase so often that it may seem that
television is already the same thing of the past as handwritten letters or ICQ.
To be honest, I do not know when was the last time I watched TV, never in
America at least. All the news that I know, I get from the Internet, I watch
movies, TV shows on Netflix. I can say YouTube replaced television with me,
there are entertainment channels, news, analytical ones. One advantage is that
I can watch them whenever I want and how much I want.
But on the other hand, I watch the same films and news that are showed
on TV. I also watch recordings of shows that have already been shown on TV. I
am familiar with the content that is shown on television. I can read
pro-democracy news, but I can also read only about Trump and what a great
president he is.
Therefore, when people say “I do not watch TV”, meaning that they are
supposedly not zombied by a box and do not exist within the framework created
by television, I can say: No. We all remain within the frames. Only this
framework has become easier to regulate. Or not?
