Is "Joker" a masterpiece or just a hype?

“Joker” set the October box office record in the United States, ahead of last year's “Venom”. Some critics claim that this film will be nominated for an Oscar in at least three categories. This is a film about a madman, something like “Shutter Island”. In a nutshell, comics are a skeleton inside of which there can be drama, maybe comedy, usually action movies are shot by comics. We are used to having a certain style of Marvel’s and DC’s movies. For some people, “Joker” is a new look at comics, perhaps a more complex plot pattern, a more mature understanding of the characters. I was delighted with the first part of the film, like a thriller, like a drama, this film is very impressive. We are filled with regret and sympathy for the main character. Detailed, perfectly filmed. Mental disorder looked very natural, Joaquin Phoenix did a marvelous job. “But from the side of the comics, there wasn’t enough rebellion, harshness, vulgarity, which is associated with the Joker,” said one of my friends.

In my opinion, there wasn’t enough disclosure of the moment when Arthur turns from a loser, an invisible strange sissy into the leader of the crowd, a person who inspires, who speaks directly and with purpose.

Some people also say it seems as if they cut out some scenes or did not shoot it at all. Some of my friends needed more information in the middle, others said that they would like to see more in the last scene. “If they showed a little more in the last five minutes when he got on a police car, then I would have changed my point of view. There was no last point”.

As for the main social message, for which critics praise this film. The film just very competently juggles different topics in front of the viewer, basically felt empty about social problems. For example, the main character Arthur eventually becomes a Joker under the pressure of the social system. And what exactly is the system that affected him so much? Is capitalism bad or mass culture is bad, or together they are bad, because they created comics, came up with their own cliches, which they later beat in this film? “I didn’t see any statement in this film, it’s rather an attempt to pretend that there is some statement in it, but which one you’ll guess yourself,” said one popular blogger.

In conclusion, the film is very good but is it as good as the critics say. I am not sure.
