Live-Tweeting Tips

This Homecoming weekend, I got a little experience of being a twitter journalist. I may say that I definitely liked to post twits, but I faced some difficulties and want to share tips that will help to conduct live tweet much better. What lessons did I learn from the first experience of a twitter journalist:

1. Check if there is a good wi-fi in the place you will be. At first, I was going to write about the parade, since I was going to participate in it with the Amnesty International club. But I realized that there would be no Wi-Fi in Ada and I could not broadcast. I understood this, standing near the Ada High School. Although at the stadium, Wi-Fi also did not work everywhere, and I had to spend a lot of time to find a place where there would be a good network.

2. Charge the phone and take the power bank with you. It seems obvious, but I did not prepare for it, so I published the last tweet when I got home and put the phone on recharge.

3. If you are at an event, then do not sit. To get beautiful shots, talk with eyewitnesses and participants, you need to constantly move towards the change in the agenda of the event. So, after the award, I needed to take a picture with the new Homecoming Queen.

4. Some texts for tweets can be written in advance. When you are directly at the event, it is very difficult to quickly come up with any interesting and witty text. Therefore, knowing that there will be a match, you can come up with funny texts for moments when they score a goal or vice versa lose points.

5. Show, not tell. Perhaps this tip is not 100% suitable for Twitter, but I am more interested in reading about the event, having pictures or photos from the place. It is the visual image that gives a sense of presence to the audience.

In conclusion, live-tweeting is quite an interesting activity, however, it requires much more effort and creativity to make high-quality content than it seemed to me before. These tips are pretty obvious, but I think they would make my broadcast better if I knew about them in advance.
