Industrial Capital
This Fall break I spent traveling with my friends. One of the places I visited was Chicago. I heard a lot about this city, I know a lot of people who prefer Chicago than any other American cities such as New York or Los-Angeles. In America, there are towns like Ada, small-town America, where houses and streets are so pretty like in Sims. Towns where you can’t get anywhere without a car, and there is no public transport at all. Or cities like Chicago, where skyscrapers stand behind skyscrapers. They have a skyscraper church, a skyscraper prison, skyscraper residential buildings, skyscraper office buildings, etc. The fact is that all these skyscrapers are concentrated in one place, they are not distributed over the territory of America.
I do not know how to compare cities like Chicago with something else, they do not look like any place where I ever been in Russia or Europe. European cities and Moscow are very old, there are many low houses, narrow streets, the history of the Middle Ages lives in the same city as the imperialist era and industrialization. Chicago is a symbol of industrial modernity. This is a rather unique for me, I first understood what a concrete jungle is - a place where sometimes the sun shines for only a few minutes, while it has time to squeeze between the high walls of houses onto the streets. I like that almost every building in Chicago is an architectural monument that values as the historian richness. So there is no advertisement on the skyscrapers and everything looks pretty and non-commercial.
I definitely love Chicago for being so exclusive and I want to return there again one day to spend more time discovering this city.
