“My message is that we'll be watching you”
On September 23, 2019, the 16-year-old Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg made an emotional speech at the UN. The speech that gives you goosebumps. She accused politicians of ignoring the problem of global warming and taking away the future from her and millions of other people.
Greta Thunberg became known a year ago when she first went out with a single picket to the building of the Swedish parliament to force politicians to comply with the Paris climate agreement. Now millions of people around the world have joined her Fridays for Future movement, and Greta herself has become the nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize and the person of the year according to the American GQ. The uncompromising opinion and the tough style of speaking (partly due to health characteristics - the girl was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, selective mutism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) brought Thunberg not only popularity and recognition but also a lot of negativity.
Some even accuse her of using Nazi propaganda methods, and Fox News called her “a mentally ill Swedish child”. Many people are sure that it is just a PR product that ignites hearts with its naive revolutionary struggle against the adult world.
I am proud of Greta Thunberg. I love the way she speaks, I love the fact that she is a teenager. More and more young people around the world are trying to stop the ecological collapse that is going to happen with the planet Earth. I am proud of my generation which is not indifferent to modern global problems. A lot of my friends stop using plastic as much as they can, donate for ecological organizations and simply care about nature.
I think that there is time to deal with global warming and Greta Thunberg reminds us of the consequences of our indecision.
The emotions that she executed in every word she said was very touching. I could relate to her... everytime she said how dare you.. that made sense to me. Honestly, this is the kind of person I aspire to be. This is the kind of voice this world lacks.
