Types of The Audience
Karen J. Freberg divides the audience into Social Media into several groups. She highlights the primary audience and the secondary audience. The first one consists of people that you want to target most. The secondary audience is made up of those to whom your primary audience close. She also provides Emerging audiences that talks about people who are most likely to become your primary audience. The last category is Opponents or critics who are strongly against your brand.
I think that we may also talk about the different types of Social Media users. So, I've found what the researches say. For example, a Canadian company Aimia that specializes in Social Media suggests its own list of customers:
1. No Shows (41%) - people who are not interested in Social Media at all.
2. Newcomers (15%) - those who use only one Social Media platform.
3. Onlookers (16%) - users who participate in common discussions, watch others accounts but do not share their personal information.
4. Cliquers (6%) - people who are active only in one small community.
5. Mix-n-Ming (19%) - users who share their personal information and communicate a lot with other members of Social Media.
6. Sparks (3%) - most active leaders of Social Media.
Knowing these types of Social Media users we may target our audience more carefully changing the content towards their interests and experience.
