Screen Names And Avatars
As a blogger-beginner, I needed to read two chapters of the Social Media Student Book by Guy Kawasaki named "The Art of Social Media". The author explains how to improve your profile and how to find the content for your posts. Mostly I found this book quite interesting as I have been a blogger never before. However, as a millennial I used to search through the Internet looking for some information, reading texts, watching videos, etc. So I have some sort of user experience not to agree with all the things Mr. Kawasaki provides.
The first thing I would like to mention is a good screen name. Guy Kawasaki believes you need to create a neutral screen name in case you may dislike it after a year or two. So, he suggests using a personal name to make it easy for people to remember. Probably it works in some cases but I know a lot of YouTube or Instagram bloggers with more than a million followers who use funny names. For example, PewDiePie, the most popular blogger on YouTube. Twitter accounts also vary depending on the content they provide. So, I think that we may use any bright name we like, the main criteria is your content.
The second thing makes me disagree with is an avatar. The author claims we need to download a photo of ourselves for people to know who is this guy that talks with them. Again it depends on the context. To be honest, I do not care if my favorite blogger will not have his or her photo as an avatar. As a follower, I am interested in what this avatar means, how it looks like with the style of context.
Nevertheless, I like a lot of things Guy Kawasaki discusses. For instance, he mentioned that we need to focus on some Holidays or just popular events that happen around the world as it is a good method to find new followers and increase views. I also like the way he talks about content services, he even suggests the list of sources we may use. I am not sure, I will use them all as I think it also depends on what thoughts you'd like to share with your followers but still this advise is quite useful for beginners.
To conclude, Guy Kawasaki is undoubtedly professional Social Media couch to anyone who wants to start blogging but I believe there is no way to understand Social Media without using it, without surfing the Media million times per day, reading other authors, analyzing breaking news and, of course, publishing your texts and reading comments.
